Insurance
We hold public liability insurance which covers our guests whilst they are on our property at Footsteps HQ only.
Our insurance does not cover you whilst you are walking with us in the village. We strongly recommend that anyone joining one of our walks is covered by adequate personal travel insurance which includes walking and hiking activities.
Starting and finishing locations
We use three potential meeting points for our walks, the choice of meeting point is largely determined by the time of year, the temperature and occasionally by local events and festivals happening in Farsa. You will be advised of the meeting point at the time of booking.
All of our walks end at Footsteps HQ .... our home. Here you will be able to relax with a cool drink on our roof terrace and enjoy the some of the most magnificent views on Kefalonia. Drinks are included in the price of our tours and Footsteps HQ is within a few minutes’ walk of all meeting points and the amenities of the village.
Walk Difficulty
We describe our walks as being of moderate difficulty as they involve walking along hill paths, sometimes with uneven surfaces, loose stones and soil underfoot.
We provide walks rather than hikes. We go at a slow and steady pace to allow people to stop regularly, appreciate the village and take in the views.
Our walks are suitable for people with a good level of general fitness but are not suitable for people with reduced mobility or certain medical conditions.
Walk Duration
Our standard walking experiences last for around 2.5 hours plus time afterwards to relax on our roof terrace with a cool drink. The overall length of the walk is around 5km.
Walking accounts for about half the overall time. We like to walk at a gentle pace, stop regularly to appreciate the village and the surrounding views and talk a little about some of the key buildings, the history of the village and the lifestyles of the villagers.
The Greeks have a saying which describes our walks perfectly, “siga, siga” .... “slowly, slowly”.
Suitable Footwear
Walking boots or walking shoes are the most suitable footwear, but we understand that not everyone has these or wants to bring them on holiday. Trainers are acceptable alternatives for the types of walk we do.
Flip flops, sandals, other forms of open footwear, along with any type of footwear with a heel are not suitable. We will refuse to take anyone with unsuitable footwear on one of our walks.
What to bring with you
Bottled water is essential for the walk, along with sun lotion in the hotter months. Insects come and go throughout the seasons so, if you are sensitive to insect bites, its useful to wear or carry repellent.
A small backpack is useful to carry your possessions and keep your hands free.
Most importantly, don’t forget to bring your phone or camera to capture the amazing scenery and memories!
Minimum Age
The minimum age of guest that we accept on our walks is 13. We do not ask for proof of age, but it is the responsibility of the lead booker to ensure that no one in their party is under 13 years of age.
Walking Days
We offer our walking experiences from Tuesday to Saturday inclusive and operate from late May until early October. During busy periods we may offer additional days for private groups if we cannot accommodate you on one of our standard walking days.
Minimum and maximum group sizes
Our Kalimera and Kalispera walks operate with a minimum of two and a maximum of ten people.
Our Private Tours operate with a minimum of six and a maximum of ten people.
Our Artists’ Experiences operate with a minimum of four and a maximum of ten people.
If you would like to arrange a tour involving a group size of more than ten people, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss the options with you.
Transfers
We do not offer a transfer service and there is no regular public bus service to Farsa suitable for the start times of our walks. All guests must be able to make it to Farsa in time for the start of the walk by their own means.
Booking Process
Once you have completed the online enquiry form, we will confirm by email if there is availability for your group on your preferred date and time.
If there is no availability, we will offer alternative options. In the same e-mail we will send a copy of our booking conditions. Once you confirm acceptance of the booking conditions your space will be reserved.
In the event that we cannot offer a suitable date for your booking we do operate a ‘standby’ list should any places become available due to cancellations by other guests.
Payment
The total amount payable will be confirmed during the booking process.
We do not ask for a deposit for our standard daily walks; the total amount is payable on the day of your walk.
Any private tours and artists’ experiences are subject to a 50% deposit at the time of booking.
Payment can be made by either cash or card on the day and deposits by bank transfer.
Cancellations
By You - if you need to cancel your booking or reduce the number of people, please let us know as soon as you can. As we have limited capacity on our walks it helps us to know of any changes in guest numbers as far in advance as possible so that we can take additional bookings to fill the spaces.
By Us - Occasionally we may need to cancel walks at short notice due to forecasted weather conditions such as extreme heat, heavy rain or thunderstorms. Wherever possible we will give as much notice as possible of cancellations and contact the lead booker by both e-mail and telephone.
In the event that we need to cancel a walk we will do our best to offer you an alternative date, although this may not always be possible.
